Fully Government Funded Training
To support workplaces to reopen and stay open, the Queensland and Commonwealth governments, for a restricted period, are co-funding certified, Infection Prevention and Control training and certification.
Staff who undertake this training will receive a nationally recognised certificate and will have been trained to the highest standard. This training teaches you how to reduce the risk for businesses, with both staff and customers, should there be an outbreak of COVID-19 in your area. This training when applied will also help limit spread of the flu, common cold or even gastroenteritis.

Who is it for?
This course is suitable for employees who have:
- been working or volunteering in a customer facing role
- have been applying infection control policies and procedures in their workplace for at least a month
- have access to someone in their workplace who can attest to them applying infection control policies and procedures
To be eligible for a government subsidised (training at no cost) place employees must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or a humanitarian visa holder
- aged 15 years or older (but no longer enrolled at school, or equivalent)
- a Permanent Queensland resident

The course
This course has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of what infection prevention and control is, how infection occurs in the workplace, and the steps you can take to help minimise the risk of infection.
It has been developed to cover the unit of competency BSBSS00095 (BSBWHS332X) Apply infection prevention and control procedures to own work activities. To be issued with the national statement of attainment, learners will need to complete the following:

Overview | Basic microbiology and the chain of infection, so participants have a base understanding for apply precautions. | 30 minutes |
Precautions | Standard and transmission based precautions used to break the chain of infection and stop the spread. Why these are important and how to implement them properly. | 60 minutes |
Risk Management | Risk assessment process applied to infection control, where participants have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learnt to their workplace and take a risk based approach to applying infection prevention and control precautions. | 30 minutes |
Assessment | Learners will need to answer a series of online multiple choice and short answer questions. They will also need to provide photographic or video evidence of them applying what they’ve learnt in the workplace. | Allow 2 hours |
- Follow precautions for infection prevention and control.
- Identify infection hazards and assess the risk, and
- Follow procedures for managing risks associated with infection transmission.
